Since its inception in 1994, IRCAD and Medtronic has enjoyed a long history of collaboration in the field of surgical training. Medtronic was one of the first commercial partners to invest in IRCAD in 1994 due the vision of Mr. Leon Hirsch, former CEO of US Surgical Corporation, and Professor Jacques Marescaux, President IRCAD, Chairman of the IHU Strasbourg.

The early 1990’s witnessed the rapid growth of laparoscopic surgery and Mr. Hirsch, whilst recognizing the potential applications for a laparoscopic approach in many different types of surgical procedures, also recognized the need for world-class training programs to provide an enhanced level of safety for patients undergoing this revolutionary approach to surgery. From the relatively humble beginnings of 1994, IRCAD now provides minimally invasive surgery training to 4300 surgeons every year in a state of the art learning facility, designed to meet the needs of the modern healthcare professional in picturesque Strasbourg and on-line training to 300,000 delegates worldwide via Websurg.

Our mission is to create and deliver innovative healthcare solutions, developed in collaboration with medical professionals to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life. With an extensive product portfolio, Medtronic has an ongoing commitment to the physician, the clinician, nursing support and education. At the core of our business is a commitment to provide quality Training & Education Programs.

Through the IRCAD facility, we offer our customers and colleagues an opportunity to meet, interact and study in a unique training environment.

Twenty one surgical workstations are fully equipped with the latest Medtronic technology for surgery including energy, stapling and laparoscopic access devices. Endoscopy equipment, vital signs, ventilators, suction, gas supply, O2, CO2 and air are provided at each workstation.

Two state of the art auditoria offer a comprehensive lecture and conference facility for groups of up to 120 persons. And several seminar rooms equipped with projector, OHP, whiteboard, screen and monitor are available for groups of 10 to 20 participants.

WeBSurg is IRCAD’s web-based educational resource in minimally invasive surgery. It lets healthcare professionals access a wide range of surgical procedures, videos, lectures, and case reports.
