Medtronic Center of Innovation—Shanghai (MCI)
In 2005, Covidien set up its first Covidien Center of Innovation (CCI) in Shanghai to help advance physician capabilities and uncover opportunities for locally tailored solutions. The focus of CCI Shanghai was to create a location where regionalized training could be provided for both internal staff and external customers. Due to the ever changing needs of the business, CCI Shanghai was upgraded in September 2010 and is now viewed as one of the most advanced training centers in Asia.
The upgraded CCI Shanghai covers an area of 2,000 m2, with eleven operating tables, two intensive care units and one surgery simulation room available to our various customers. It is also equipped with one OR1TM (Intelligent Master Table) so that all surgical equipment and cutting-edge technologies could be perfectly combined to form an optimized system. In addition, this CCI is provided with a large lecture hall for 122 people, two multifunctional classrooms and five small meeting rooms.
Since its establishment in 2005, CCI Shanghai has offered training to around 20,000 medical practitioners in Asia. Covidien has created the Professional Affairs and Clinical Education (PACE) function to focus on Healthcare Professional (HCP) training and education, through collaboration with both societies and individual hospitals. The CCI Shanghai facility plays an important role in the overall training curriculum of all our customers; focusing on raising awareness of various disease states and providing opportunities for clinicians to see how Covidien’s devices treat these diseases.
