BIS™ Brain Monitoring System Clinical Overview
This course provides an overview of the Bispectral Index™ (BIS™) brain monitoring system. The BIS brain monitoring system enables anesthesia professionals to access processed electroencephalogram (EEG) information as a measure of the effect of certain anesthetics on patients. The BIS™ system monitors a patient's level of consciousness, and helps clinicians determine and administer the appropriate amounts of anesthetic agents to meet the needs of each individual patient, providing significant benefits for patients and healthcare institutions.
Because utilizing the BIS™ system during patient care may be new to some anesthesia professionals, an overview of the fundamental elements of BIS™ technology is provided. BIS brain monitoring technology in clinical settings, clinical benefits, validation and a patient case scenario are also reviewed to guide anesthesia care.
