Endo Stitch™ 10 mm Suturing Device

The Endo Stitch™ 10 mm single use suturing device has two jaws. A sutured Endo Stitch™ needle, loaded from a single use loading unit, is held in one jaw and can be passed to the other jaw by closing the handles and flipping the toggle levers.

The Endo Stitch™ device is designed for introduction and use through all appropriately sized trocar sleeves or larger sized trocar sleeves with the use of a converter. The Endo Stitch™ single use suturing device has application in endoscopic surgery for the placement of interrupted or running stitches in soft tissues.

The Endo Stitch™ single use suturing device is available in 2 sizes:

  • 10mm and 10mm short with the choice of 4 suture materials
  • Surgidac™, Polysorb™, Bralon™, or Sofsilk™.

The Endo Stitch™ single use loading units (SULU’s) are available in either a single-stitch unit with one sutured needle or a triple-stitch unit with three sutured needles. The Endo Stitch™ single use loading units are available in the following suture materials:

  • Bralon™ braided nylon sutures are inert, nonabsorbable, sterile surgical sutures composed of the long-chain aliphatic polymers Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6.
  • Bralon™ sutures are coated uniformly with polybutylene adipate to enhance handling characteristics, ease of passage through tissue and reduction of capillarity.
  • Bralon™ braided sutures are nonabsorbable nylon surgical sutures which are available either dyed black, with Logwood extract, or undyed (white).
  • Bralon™ braided nylon sutures meet all requirements established by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the European Pharmacopeia (EP).
  • Polysorb™ sutures are composed of Lactomer™ glycolide/lactide copolymer which is a synthetic polyester composed of glycolide and lactide (derived from glycolic and lactic acids).
  • Polysorb™ sutures are prepared by coating the suture with a mixture of a caprolactone/glycolide copolymer and calcium stearoyl lactylate.
  • Polysorb™ sutures are colored violet to increase visibility and are also available undyed.

Polysorb™ sutures meet all requirements established by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the European Pharmacopeia (EP) except for minor variations in suture diameter.

Such variations are:

Maximum Suture Oversize in Diameter (mm) from U.S.P. Size U.S.P. Size Designation (mm) Maximum Overage (mm)
4-0 0.15-0.199 0.050
3-0 0.20-0.249 0.050
2-0 0.30-0.339 0.050
0 0.35-0.399 0.050

Sofsilk™ silk sutures are nonabsorbable, sterile, non-mutagenic surgical sutures composed of natural proteinaceous silk fibers called fibroin. This protein is derived from the domesticated silkworm species Bombyx mori of the family bombycidae. The silk fibers are treated to remove the naturally-occurring sericin gum, bleached and braided to produce Sofsilk™ surgical silk sutures. The braided sutures are available coated uniformly with silicone to reduce capillarity, and to increase surface lubricity to enhance handling characteristics, ease of passage through tissue and knot run-down properties.

Sofsilk™ sutures are available colored black with Logwood extract.

Sofsilk™ sutures meet all requirements established by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the European Pharmacopeia (EP) for nonabsorbable surgical sutures.

Surgidac™ polyester sutures are nonabsorbable, sterile, surgical sutures composed of Poly (Ethylene terephthalate). They are prepared from fibers of high molecular weight, long-chain, linear polyesters having recurrent aromatic rings as an integral component. The monofilament sutures are uncoated and the braided sutures are available uncoated or coated uniformly with polybutylene adipate to increase surface lubricity, thereby enhancing handling characteristics, ease of passage through tissue, and knot run-down properties. Surgidac™ Polyester sutures are inert and elicit only minimal local tissue reaction. They are available dyed with D&C Green No. 6 colorant and are also available undyed (white).

Surgidac™ sutures meet all requirements established by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the European Pharmacopeia (EP) for nonabsorbable surgical sutures except where indicated on the individual unit package.
